How to Choose the Right Menstrual Disc Size (Without Stress!)
Share
Thinking about switching to a menstrual disc? First of all, congratulations! You’ve made an amazing choice for your body and the planet.
We know trying something new can feel a bit intimidating, especially if it’s your first time using reusable menstrual products. One of the biggest questions we hear is:
“How do I know which menstrual disc size to choose?”
Don’t worry, you’re not alone, and it’s actually simpler than you might think! Let’s break it down together so you can find your perfect fit.
Why Cervix Height Matters for Menstrual Discs
Everyone’s anatomy is beautifully unique, and your cervix height plays a huge part in choosing the right disc size.
Fun fact: your cervix doesn’t stay in exactly the same spot all month! It can sit higher at the start of your period and drop a little lower later on. Knowing your cervix height helps your disc fit comfortably and stay put.
How to measure your cervix:
-
Wash your hands, then gently insert a clean finger into your vagina until you feel something firm (like the tip of your nose), that’s your cervix!
- If you can easily touch it right away (around the first knuckle)→ low cervix
- If it takes a bit more reach (around the second knuckle) → medium cervix
-
if you have to stretch your finger in deeply (around the third knuckle or cannot touch the cervix) → high cervix
If you don’t feel comfortable measuring your cervix with your finger, that’s completely okay. There are easy clues your body already gives you that can help you get an idea of whether your cervix is lower or higher. For example, if tampons often feel like they’re slipping down or not sitting fully inside, that’s usually a sign of a lower cervix. The same goes if you’ve tried a menstrual cup or disc before and it felt like there wasn’t enough room, or it kept sliding out. On the other hand, if tampons sit comfortably (and sometimes even feel tricky to reach), or if your cervix isn’t usually noticeable during penetrative sex, that points more toward a medium or high cervix. These signs aren’t exact measurements, but they give you a helpful starting point so you can choose a disc size with more confidence.
