How to use a menstrual disc
Share
Welcome to a whole new period experience.
Most of our users say they will never go back to single-use products, and we understand why.
To get the most out of your disc, it is important to follow a few simple instructions. Remember that you can always reach out if you need help. Think of us as your personal period coach.
It might take a couple of cycles to feel completely comfortable using the disc, and that is perfectly normal. This is why we offer a 90-day money-back guarantee (insert link). We want you to have the time and support you need to truly get used to it.
Before You Use It
Read the instructions carefully. They contain helpful insights that will make your first experience smoother and more comfortable.
Sterilize Before First Use
Since the disc isn’t sterile when you get it, make sure to sterilize it before the first use and after every cycle.
Place the disc in a small pot of boiling water for 10 minutes.
Important: Make sure there is enough water in the pot. If the water evaporates completely, the disc could burn or become damaged.
Inserting Your Menstrual Disc
Start by washing your hands with soap and water. This simple step is important to keep everything clean and comfortable.
When you are ready, find a position that feels natural to you. Many people prefer sitting on the toilet, squatting, or standing with one leg raised. There is no single correct way, so choose the one that makes you feel most relaxed.
Take your disc and gently pinch the rim together to form a figure eight shape. This makes it slimmer and easier to insert. Hold the disc in one hand and, with the other hand, gently spread your labia to guide it in.
Insert the disc at a slight angle, aiming toward your tailbone rather than straight up. This follows the natural shape of your body. Push the disc in as far as it comfortably goes. Your body is designed for this and the disc is made to fit safely and securely.
Once it is fully inside, use your finger to tuck the front rim up and behind your pubic bone. You may feel it settle into place. When positioned correctly, the disc sits just below your cervix and collects menstrual fluid without leaking.
Now you are all set. You can enjoy up to twelve hours of protection and freedom before it needs to be emptied.
Wear Time and Capacity
The Mooneva Menstrual Disc has one of the highest capacities of any menstrual care product. It can hold between 30 and 60 milliliters of menstrual fluid, making it an excellent choice if you have a heavy flow.
You can wear the disc for up to 12 hours, which means you can go about your day, work, exercise, or simply rest without worrying about changing it. For most people, this means only needing to empty it twice a day.
If your flow is very heavy, you may need to empty it more often. During your first few cycles, you will get a better sense of the timing that works best for your body. Just remember that the disc should never be worn for longer than 12 hours at a time.
Removing Your Menstrual Disc
Always start by washing your hands with soap and water. This helps keep the process clean and safe.
Find a position where you feel comfortable and relaxed. Many people prefer sitting on the toilet, squatting, or standing with one leg raised, such as on the edge of the bathtub. Choose what feels best for you.
Gently insert your index finger into your vagina and locate the rim or the removal loop of the disc. Hook your finger around it and slowly pull the disc out, keeping it level to avoid accidental spills. Move gently and steadily until it is completely removed.
Empty the contents into the toilet, then rinse the disc thoroughly with cold water. You do not need to use soap every time, but if you choose to, make sure it is mild, fragrance-free, and free from harsh chemicals. Avoid creamy or heavily perfumed soaps, as these can cause irritation. Then just reinsert your disc.
Storing Your Menstrual Disc
When your period is over, sterilize your disc by boiling it in water for 10 minutes. Allow it to dry completely before storing it.
Place the clean, dry disc in the breathable cotton pouch provided in your box. This helps keep it protected while allowing air circulation.
Avoid storing your disc in airtight containers or plastic bags. Without proper airflow, moisture can get trapped, increasing the risk of bacterial growth, and certain plastics may damage the silicone over time. Proper storage keeps your disc safe, clean, and ready for your next cycle.
